Lucknow Coaching Centre Fire: From Hazratganj To Aminabad, 5 Harrowing Fire Incidents That Shook UP Capital

Jagran Correspondent, Lucknow: The fire incident at Lucknow's coaching and animation institution claimed the lives of 15 students and employees on Monday. The Uttar Pradesh government has formed a two-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to conduct a detailed probe and submit its report within a week. While the exact reason is not known yet, the building owners violated several rules, leading to the deaths. However, several similar incidents have occurred in Lucknow in the past decade where people lost their lives due to negligence and mismanagement.

Major Fire Incidents In Lucknow: 

- April 15, 2026: Two children died and more than a thousand people were left homeless after a massive fire broke out in a slum in Vikasnagar. The incident affected the lives of over 280 families residing in the slum, and the fire escalated massively as over 50 LPG cylinders stored inside the slums exploded.

- May 15, 2025: A sleeper bus travelling from Delhi to Bihar caught fire near Lucknow, leading to the death of five passengers. The bus was carrying more passengers than its capacity, and the flames engulfed the vehicle immediately, giving very little time to the passengers to react.

- September 5, 2022: Four people died and others got severely injured after a massive fire broke out in the four-story Levana Suites Hotel in Hazratganj in the early hours. The customers were trapped inside the hotel due to the lack of emergency exits and the presence of iron grills on the windows.

- June 19, 2018: A short circuit in the air conditioner of Hotel SSJ International near Charbagh Railway Station caused a fire, which later engulfed the nearby Hotel Virat. The safety standards were ignored at both the hotels, leading to the deaths of seven people due to suffocation and burns.

- March 26, 2015: A massive fire broke out in the medicine market in Aminabad due to a short-circuit, leading to significant financial loss to the business owners. The fire brigade teams struggled to enter the market due to the narrow streets and encroachment. As per the reports, medicines worth crores of rupees and over 50 shops were destroyed in the incident.
