PM Modi Manipur Visit: Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a significant visit to Manipur on Saturday, September 13, 2025, marking his first trip to the northeastern state in over two years, following the ethnic violence that broke out in May 2023.

PM Modi, while addressing a rally in the Kuki-dominated district of Churachandpur, assured the gathering that the centre is committed to the development of the state. PM Modi further lauded the resilience of the state, saying that Manipur is a 'land of determination'.

He travelled from Imphal to the Kuki-dominated district of Churachandpur by road due to heavy rains. The Prime Minister was received at the Imphal airport by Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla and Chief Secretary Puneet Kumar Goel.

'I Understand Your Struggle': PM Modi In Manipur

Talking about the central government's initiatives to improve connectivity in the state, PM Modi said that his government has expanded rail connectivity to Manipur. "The Jiribam-Imphal railway line will soon connect the capital Imphal to the national rail network. Rs 22,000 crore is being spent on this. The new Imphal airport, built at a cost of Rs 400 crores, is giving new heights to air connectivity..." PM said.

He further said that he understands the difficulties people went through due to the lack of good roads, hence he focused on connectivity. 

'Mani' Going To Make Northeast Shine

Prime Minister Modi, in his address in Churachandpur, recognised the state's extraordinary attributes, saying that Manipur has 'Mani' in its name, which will make the entire Northeast shine in future. 

'A Gift Of Nature': PM Modi As He Addresses Crowd

Appreciating the geographical position of the state and its rich culture, PM said, "Manipur is a gift of nature. The hills are a unique gift to the country." He further acknowledged the efforts of people to attend the rally, despite unfavourable weather conditions, saying, "I  salute the spirit of the people of Manipur."

'New Dawn To Begin': PM Appeals For Peace And Assures Support

Pointing toward the ethnic strife between the Kuki and Meitei communities, which engulfed the state in 2023, the PM said, "Violence engulfed this beautiful place. A new dawn is about to begin. People have chosen the path of peace." He further assured the gathering of the centre's support, saying, "I promise you I am with you. I am with you. The Centre is with you." 

PM Modi concluded his speech, saying that he wants to see the state become a symbol of peace, prosperity and progress.

PM Assures Restoring Peace And Normalcy

Earlier, during his interaction with common people and victims of ethnic violence in the state at Churachandpur's Peace Ground, PM Modi listened to the concerns of the families of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and assured them of the Centre's commitment to restoring peace and normalcy in the state.
