Tamil Nadu Government Formation: Congress has decided to extend its support to the Vijay-led TVK to form the government in Tamil Nadu following the newly formed party's impressive performance in the assembly polls. As per the reports, Congress has demanded at least two ministerial positions and has asked Vijay to have no association with the NDA. A formal letter of support is soon likely to be submitted to the governor, paving the way for the formation of the new government.
While Congress senior leader Rahul Gandhi was in favour of the alliance, party president Mallikarjun Kharge wanted the regional leaders to make a decision on the new dynamics, reported NDTV, citing sources. "Yes, the Political Affairs Committee has authorised the TNCC to support TVK in government formation," Congress MP Sasikanth Senthil was quoted as saying by NDTV.

While reacting to this news, DMK spokesperson A Saravanan alleged that this was a case of backstabbing, adding that the Congress would not have been able to win 5 MPs in the state without DMK's support. The Congress-DMK alliance won 38 of the total 39 seats in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls and later won all the seats in the 2024 polls.
While the grand old party was in alliance with the MK Stalin-led party in the state assembly, it had no ministerial positions, leading to dissatisfaction among the party workers. The party is expected to get key posts in the government after decades. The assembly election result has also ended the duopoly of the DMK and AIADMK in the state's politics.
With Congress extending its support, the tally of the TVK alliance will be 113. Apart from this, the newly formed party is also in contact with CPI (two seats), CPM (two seats), and VCK (two seats), reported NDTV, citing sources. A formal letter of support is soon likely to be submitted for the formation of a new government.
