Android 15 Leaks: Google will likely introduce the next version of Android later this year. As the company has already announced the developer preview and beta update for the upcoming OS, the stable release is expected to start rolling out for eligible Android devices after the launch of the Google Pixel 9 series. The successor of the Pixel 8 lineup could debut in October 2024.
This affair could be followed by a steady rollout of Android 15 for more eligible smartphones. Ahead of the launch, here are the top updates to know about the upcoming version ahead of release.
Android 15 Features (Expectations)
For Android 15, codenamed internally as Vanilla Ice Cream, Google is testing a partial screen-sharing feature to record an app rather than an entire window. Plus, the update could enable support for satellite-based SMS connectivity in messaging apps on eligible devices. Android expert Mishaal Rahman also tipped NFC-based wireless charging for the upcoming OS.
For notifications, a cooldown feature to restrict frequent notifications and better management of sensitive notifications is also rumoured for the upcoming update. Apart from these, new tweaks may include app archiving, new controls in the camera app, a universal keyboard vibration toggle, High-Quality webcam mode, loudness controls and more, according to Android Authority.
Plus, design and UI changes are a staple for an Android upgrade. The design tweaks could include better theming options, enhanced interface for widgets and apps and options for more cosmetic customisation. Lastly, improvements in key aspects like battery life, privacy, performance, AI and more are expected from Android 14's successor.
Android 15 Release Date (Expectations)
The upcoming Android could officially arrive as a stable build on the Pixel 9 series in the first week of October 2024. For context, the Pixel 8 series launched on October 4, 2023. However, the beta trims will likely continue to roll out before this version for eligible Pixel phones.
Android 15 Eligible Devices (Expectations)
According to PhoneArena, the Pixel 6 series and later Google smartphones could be eligible to receive the Android 15 update. After Pixel, the latest flagships of smartphone makers like Samsung, OnePlus, Nothing and more may get the update next, followed by relatively older flagships and the latest mid-range devices from other OEMs.
