Instagram, which has been working on a slew of new features is now reportedly working on a new feature dubbed Friend Map, which will allow users to locate their friends on the maps. This comes after Alessandro Paluzzi, a software developer spotted the feature and posted a screenshot on X and Threads.

As per the screenshot shared, the feature will allow the users to see the location of their friends on the photo-sharing platform. However, to address the privacy concerns, users will also have the option to move to the ghost mode using which they can hide their location if they want not to share it. It will also be end-to-end encrypted, says a report.

“#Instagram keeps working on "Friend map": your friends, on a map. Your location is end-to-end encrypted. Let's see how it works,” Paluzzi wrote in an X post.

The feature looks a lot similar to Snapchat’s Snap Map, which also has the same functionality to find their friends on the maps. Speaking of the differentiator, the platform will also let users leave notes on the map itself to tell their friends about the purpose of their visit to a particular destination. Do note that this feature is currently under development and Meta has not clarified the public availability. However, if the company has planned for the rollout, it will be out with the OTA updates in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, the Meta-owned platform is developing a new feature that allows non-users to watch Reels via a web browser or native device. Only iOS users will be able to view the reels on App Clips, which are essentially small versions of applications that can be accessed without downloading the entire app. The function is presently accessible in the Instagram app beta version 319.0.2, allowing users to peruse other popular videos and share them with others.
