WhatsApp has revealed a new edition of features for Android and iOS, including the ability to share photos just about anywhere, more chat functionality and how to stay on top of your messages. Live Photos and Motion Photos are now supported in the latest update, as well as AI functionality to customise your shots with new sticker packs you can put on your face or anywhere else. Document scanning is also no longer iOS-only, and there’s an easier way to find group chat functions.
Share Live Photos and Motion Photos
One of the most thrilling changes is that you can now send and receive Live Photos on iOS and Motion Photos on Android. When you take a live photo or burst shot, these types of live video and audio recordings are produced that show several seconds before and after the time of capture. With photos, photos seem to come to life and now you have a more dynamic way one can share moments.

AI-Powered Chat Themes and Call Backgrounds
WhatsApp has also announced Meta AI-enabled customisation. Users can now:
- Create custom chat themes by typing prompts into the AI.
- Make backgrounds for your video calls with Meta AI.
- Use AI-powered background when taking photos and videos in chats.
The feature is only available in several countries right now, but it’s available in many languages including both English and Arabic, French, German, Indonesian,Brazilian Portuguese Recently Played History Settings Log OutYou may have noticed that some of these characters speak different languages.
New Sticker Packs
WhatsApp is rolling out more sticker packs to liven up chats. The following can now be downloaded and used:
- Fearless Bird
- School Days
- Vacation
Easier Group Search
It's easier to find group discussions. Instead of recalling the actual name of the group, users can type in a contact that is associated with the group. WhatsApp will then display all of the groups that both users are in.
Document Scanning on Android
One other useful new feature is document scanning on Android. An iOS-exclusive feature until now, it allows user to scan, crop, save and share documents from directly inside the app.
Why It Matters
Both updates emphasize WhatsApp’s ambitions for the crossover of AI-driven personalization and functional utilities. With richer media sharing, simple search and productivity features, the platform has evolved into more than just a messaging app.
The features are rolling out slowly for both Android and iOS, according to LinkedIn, which will offer the updates more broadly over the next few weeks.
