Viral Video: Over the past few weeks, reports on troubling incidents relating to phone and chain snatching have witnessed a sharp rise. From offenders snatching chains and jumping out of moving train to pickpockets getting caught in buses and metros, these offenders have lately evoked a fear of getting ‘robbed’ among people in public places. Widening the list further, a new incident unfolded recently, where a man was caught for allegedly snatching phones. However, what made the matter viral was that he was then brutally beaten up by the crowd after getting caught.
A video of the same was shared online and went viral on the internet. The date and location could not be confirmed, but regardless left people reacting. Many ‘called out’ the crowd for taking ‘law and order’ into their own hands, while some found the end justified.
The video was shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), by the handle ‘Arhant Shelby’. The post was reshared on the handle ‘Ghar ke kalesh’, with the caption, “Kalesh b/w a Guy and Public over this Guy was Caught while Snatching a Mobile phone in Crowded Market.”

The video, soon after getting shared, went viral on social media. The video somewhat left people divided, as some sided with the crowd and some were against them. The post was shared today and pulled 22K views from people.
Taking to the comment box, people shared their views. “Mobile chor jyada ho gaye hai inka ilaaj yahi hai (The number of phone snatchers has increased these days, this is the only justice they should get),” a user said. “Send him to jail. Don’t take the law into your own hands. That thrashing was not required. Yes, he is a criminal but you are also acting like one,” added another.
“Well deserved Belt treatment,” added a fourth user. “There is unemployment everywhere but these people do not want to do any work, these are the Tapori type people.. Cases of snatching are increasing a lot. They are not going to improve even after going to jail, they will start the same work after coming back,” added a fifth person.
