A Hindu family’s residence in Dumritola village, Pirojpur, southern Bangladesh, was torched on December 27 in what authorities and local media are describing as a targeted attack on minorities. According to reports, unidentified assailants stuffed cloth into one of the rooms of the Saha family’s house and set it on fire, causing the blaze to spread rapidly.
The affected house belonged to members of the Saha family, including Palash Kanti Saha, Shib Saha, Dipak Saha, Shyamalendu Saha, and Ashok Saha. The fire destroyed all household belongings, including furniture, cash, land documents, educational certificates, and other essential papers, leaving the family devastated.

Taslima Nasreen Reacts To Incident
Renowned Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen took to X to condemn the attack, stating, “In Dumritola village of Pirojpur, five rooms of the Saha family’s house were burned down by Hindu-hating jihadis. They set the house on fire in the early hours of the morning, when everyone was asleep.”
Nasreen also referred to similar incidents in Raozan, Chattogram, questioning whether such violence against Hindus would continue unchecked. “They want to burn Hindus alive; that is why they set fires when people are asleep,” she added.
Recent Pattern Of Attacks
The latest fire follows a spate of similar incidents targeting Hindu households in Bangladesh. Last week, a house near Chattogram was set ablaze by unidentified attackers in the early morning hours. Eight members of two affected families were able to escape by breaking through tin sheets and bamboo fencing, but all their belongings were lost, and their pets perished. Police have arrested five suspects in connection with that attack, while investigations to apprehend others are ongoing.
These attacks come amid wider unrest in the country. Earlier this month, student leader Osman Hadi, a prominent critic of India, was shot in the head by unidentified gunmen in Bangladesh and later succumbed to his injuries in Singapore, sparking nationwide turmoil.
