Kia’s Most Affordable Electric Car: Affordable electric cars could change the game for the electric vehicle (EV) market, which is currently facing a slowdown worldwide. While some carmakers are reducing prices to boost sales, others are focusing on creating new models with smaller batteries and shorter ranges but more attractive price tags. Kia is one such automaker and it's betting big on its upcoming Kia EV2 to shake things up.

Kia already sells various all-electric models globally, like the EV6 and EV9, and now they're turning heads with plans for smaller electric cars like the EV3 and EV4 sedan. But it's the EV2 that's generating the most buzz. The Kia EV2 aims to be the most affordable electric car in Kia's lineup when it hits the market. Rumors suggest it could cost around $15,000 (approximately Rs 12.50 lakh) making it a compelling option for budget-conscious buyers.

Instead of a traditional hatchback design, the EV2 is expected to have a crossover body style with SUV-inspired features. Spy shots of camouflaged test models hint at a boxy shape, adding to the anticipation surrounding this new model. Reports indicate that Kia plans to manufacture the EV2 at its plant in Slovakia, but not until the end of 2025. This facility will primarily cater to the European market, where competition from Chinese brands is heating up. The Kia EV2 represents a significant step towards making electric vehicles more accessible to the masses. With its affordable price and crossover design, it could appeal to a wide range of consumers looking to transition to electric mobility.

Kia EV6 In India

In India, Kia currently sells only one electric model, the EV6 and the South Korean manufacturer has plans to launch the Kia EV9 later this year. Kia EV6 is a premium EV offering in India that is priced between Rs 60.95 lakh to Rs 65.95 lakh (ex-showroom). It comes in both RWD and AWD powertrains and achieves a top speed of 192 km/h while sprinting from 0-100 km/h in just 5.2 seconds. It offers ARAI claimed driving range of 708 km.
