Under the ongoing Praveshotsav Abhiyan in government schools across Bihar's Sheikpura district, 3,400 children have been enrolled in Class 1 within just 10 days. The enrollment drive, which targets children who have completed 6 years of age, will continue till April 15.
Notably, out of the total enrolled, 2,100 children had completed their six years in Anganwadi centers. The campaign has actively involved education staff and Anganwadi workers, who have been tasked with ensuring enrollment by reaching out to children at Anganwadi centers, brick kilns, railway stations, and even among those collecting garbage, often accompanied by their parents.
Meanwhile, enrollment for Class 9 has commenced at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) following the government’s expansion of these schools up to Class 12. Until recently, KGBVs offered education only till Class 8.
Dedicated buildings are now being constructed for this expansion in all six KGBVs across the district. In KGBV Lodipur, all 100 approved seats for Class 9 have already been filled. Out of the 150 girls who passed Class 8 from these schools, 50 are still awaiting admission to Class 9 due to limited seat availability.
