Patna Junction is experiencing a heavy rush of passengers returning to various parts of Bihar for Chhath Puja. Platforms are packed, and trains bound for Saharsa, Supaul, Madhubani, Bhagalpur, Purnia and North Bihar are so crowded there is no room to move.
The situation is reportedly similar at Rajendra Nagar, Patliputra, Danapur, and Patna Sahib stations, as hundreds of thousands of migrants return to Bihar from Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, and other major cities.
Chaotic Scenes And Overcrowded Trains
In the afternoon, a chaotic rush was witnessed at Patna Junction, with people seen struggling to climb through train windows to secure a seat. The railway administration's arrangements, including the deployment of additional police forces, appear inadequate given the sheer number of passengers.
Passengers reported facing considerable hardship due to overcrowding on several trains, including:
- Rajya Rani Express
- Janhit Express
- Hatia-Purnia Court Express
- SwatantrataSenani Express
- Mahananda Express
- Bhagalpur Express
- Rajendra Nagar Intercity
- Kosi Express
The Janhit Express to Saharsa, the Kosi Express to Purnia, and the Vikramshila Express to Bhagalpur saw a particularly heavy rush.

Passenger Hardships
Several passengers reported that even after managing to get tickets, the lack of a confirmed seat was forcing them to travel in general compartments. The situation is so severe that train doors and windows are crammed with passengers.
A passenger named Sunil Kumar stated, "I have been waiting since morning to go to Saharsa, but there is no seating space on the train."
The railways have appealed to passengers to remain patient and to book tickets in advance.
Security And Administrative Measures
In response to the crowd, vigilance has been increased on all platforms at Patna Junction:
- Continuous announcements are being made.
- Constant checks by the CIB (Crime Investigation Branch) are underway.
- The intelligence network has been activated, and any issues found are being rectified immediately.
- Security forces are keeping a close watch on anti-social elements.
- Preparations have been made to prevent any untoward incidents.
- Appeals are being made for passengers to remain patient and cautious.
