IND vs ENG, ODI World Cup 2023: Former India opener Wasim Jaffer took a hilarious jibe at former England captain Michael Vaughan and Jos Buttler-led side after the Men in Blue thrashed the defending champions.

Match 29 of the ongoing ODI World Cup 2023 witnessed a remarkable bowling performance by India as they defended 229 runs at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on Sunday.

England were bowled out for just 129 runs, suffering a 100-run defeat, their fifth out of six matches in the tournament as they dropped to the bottom of the points table with just two points under their belt.

Jaffer and Vaughan are known for their social media banter and they never leave an opportunity to pin each other but India's win on Sunday provided an upper hand to the former.

While England were knocked out of the marquee tournament, Jaffer trolled Vaughan, saying that they can still qualify before taking a taunting iturn to say that it can happen only for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.

"Cheer up @MichaelVaughan I think England can still qualify... For Champions Trophy 2025 by finishing in top 7 #INDvENG #CWC2023," Jaffer wrote on X after India's win.

Notably, the teams finishing in the top seven in the ODI World Cup 2023 will qualify for the Champions Trophy scheduled to take place in Pakistan.

That means Buttler and Co. will be aiming to make it count in their remaining matches and make sure that they remain in the top seven at the end of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Vaughan was quick to react as he replied that such a scenario is way too long from happening with a few matches remaining for England.

"That looks a long way off at this stage Wasim ..," Vaughan responded.

Earlier he lauded the Indian team for their remarkable performance to clinch the sixth successive win in the tournament.

He also added that the England team needs a rebuild in the ODI format but praised the moments they produced in the last seven years.

"India too good once again .. The bowling is high class .. England are just out of confidence and it’s clear they now need a 50 over reset .. but let’s not forget how good this group have been & how much joy they brought many for 7 yrs .. #CWC2023," Vaughan wrote on X.

India, after a win over England, claimed the top spot in the standings with 12 points under their belt as they remain the only undefeated side in the tournament.

England will be up against the five-time champions and in-form Australia in their next match in Ahmedabad before they face the Netherlands and Pakistan to wrap up their campaign.
