The Punjabi singer-actor expressed gratitude for being a part of the sequel in a video shared on Instagram. He also recalled watching the 1996 movie on television because he didn't have enough money to see it in theatres.

Diljit Dosanjh said, "Shor bahut tha ki Border aayi hai, matlab poore desh mein shor tha ki Border aayi hai. Tab gharwale aise theatre mein jaane bhi nahi dete the. Humare paas koi aise paise bhi nahi the ki hum theatre mein dekhein. Maine phir TV par dekhi thi jab Border aayi thi. Toh hum wait hi kar rahe the — kab aayegi aur kab dekhenge."

Border 2 aimed to achieve a balance between the requirement for theatrical scale and historical truth by basing each of the main characters on honorable commanders whose actions altered the course of crucial battles. JP Dutta's Border starred Sunny Deol, Suniel Shetty, Akshaye Khanna, and Jackie Shroff, while the sequel starred Diljit, Varun Dhawan, and Ahan Shetty in addition to Sunny Deol. The movie was a blockbuster when it came out in 1997.
