Bengaluru-Mumbai Superfast Train: After nearly three decades of waiting, a superfast train will soon run between Bengaluru and Mumbai via Hubballi, cutting down the travel time from 23 hours to just 18 hours, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on Friday.
Ashwini Vaishnaw, in a letter to Dharwad MP and Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, stated that the proposed train service will operate via Davangere, Hubballi, and Belagavi, Deccan Herald reported.
The report further stated that the passengers have been demanding a train passing through Hubballi for more than a decade, aiming to ensure that the route covers a larger portion of Karnataka.
Details Of Bengaluru-Mumbai Superfast Train
- The upcoming Bengaluru-Mumbai Superfast train is expected to operate between Sir M. Visvesvaraya Terminal (SMVT) in Bengaluru and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) in Mumbai, Deccan Herald quoted Bangalore Central MP P. C. Mohan as saying.
- The travel time between Bengaluru and Mumbai will be reduced to 18 hours or less, compared to bus journeys.
- The train will have limited stops, likely at Tumakuru, Davangere, Hubballi, and Belagavi within Karnataka.
- The route via Hubballi will roughly cover 1,227 kilometres, making it a bit longer than the 1,136-kilometre Guntakal route. However, railway authorities are optimistic that the upcoming superfast train will cover the distance in around 18 hours despite the extra distance.
Currently, the Udyan Express is the only train connecting Bengaluru and Mumbai, taking around 23 hours to complete the journey. The train is often overcrowded, with passengers required to book tickets in advance.
Ashutosh Kumar Singh, Divisional Railway Manager of Bengaluru, stated that the official notification for the new service is expected to be released shortly. He further said that the departure station in Bengaluru has not yet been finalised.
