September 2022 Mirzapur Controversy

Over the years in service, controversy has often surrounded her approach towards work. In September 2022, while serving as the District Magistrate of Mirzapur, she began travelling to more remote parts of the district to hold public interactions and address grievances firsthand. Her tenure, however, also became associated with a political controversy, amid reports of differences between her and local BJP leaders.

One such incident happened after the arrival of piped water in Lahuria Dah village. Mittal attended a "jal pujan" ceremony there on August 30 to mark the development. Just two days later, on September 1, she was transferred to Basti and just within two days was placed on the "waiting list".

The transfer came after BJP leader Vipul Singh reportedly took the matter to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. According to the complaint, the local MLA, MP and other public representatives had not been invited to the event.

Divya Mittal To Enter Politics

In a video posted on X, Diya Mittal explained her shift towards politics. "I resigned from IAS last month and left many questions behind. This is a big task, and I was gathering courage. Today I have come to answer. What next? The answer is politics."

"The goal is not just to change one politician, but to change politics. We need politics of intention, a politics of concern, and a politics of thought. We do not want a politics that only aims to reach power through people. Instead, we want a politics that listens to the people," she further said.

"I am joining politics but as an independent. I will not associate with any party…I will not fear but ask questions…" Divya Mittal stated.
