Ranchi News: In a shocking incident, a 47-year-old restaurant owner in Ranchi was shot dead after allegedly serving non-vegetarian biryani to a customer who had ordered vegetarian food, police said on Sunday.

An investigation is underway, and the body has been sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for a post-mortem examination. Police are carrying out raids at several locations to arrest the suspects, news agency PTI quoted a police official as saying.

Dispute Over Biryani Leads To Fatal Incident In Ranchi

The fatal incident unfolded around 11:30 AM on Saturday at a hotel on Kanke-Pithoria Road, when a customer who had initially ordered vegetarian biryani left with his parcel but soon returned with a group, accusing the restaurant of serving non-vegetarian biryani instead, said Superintendent of Police (Rural) Praveen Pushkar.

When the customer arrived with a group, the 47-year-old restaurant owner, identified as Vijay Kumar Nag, was having food inside the restaurant. One of the assailants fired a shot, hitting him in the chest.

Soon after the incident, Nag was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The deceased, Vijay Kumar Nag, was a resident of Bhittha under the Kanke police station limits.

His body has been sent to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) for a post-mortem. Police are conducting raids at multiple locations in an effort to trace and arrest the assailants, the police further said. Further investigation is underway to determine whether there was any additional motive behind the incident.

Kanke police station officer-in-charge Prakash Rajak said, “Irate locals on Sunday morning blocked the Kanke-Pithoria Road for some time, demanding action against the culprits. The blockade was later lifted after we assured them that the assailants would be arrested soon.”
