Surat Viral Video: Surat police have arrested businessman Sameer Shah and another individual after liquor cans were found near a hotel in the city earlier this week. The incident took place outside KS Avtaar Hotel in Althan, where Shah was celebrating his birthday. Since Gujarat enforces prohibition, the possession and consumption of alcohol are strictly illegal in the state.

According to police officials, they received information about a group consuming alcohol in a vehicle parked near the hotel. Acting on the tip-off, officers reached the location and found Sameer Shah’s 19-year-old son and a few others allegedly drinking inside the car. When the police tried to record the incident, the teenager resisted and allegedly pushed the officers. A video of the confrontation has since gone viral on social media, showing the youth being restrained by police personnel.

Soon after the altercation, Sameer Shah arrived at the spot and tried to intervene. He reportedly attempted to calm the situation but also allegedly threatened the officers, claiming he had “top-level connections.” Two women later joined in, urging the police to let the teenager go, saying he was a minor.

Police later recovered nine cans of liquor worth around Rs 1,350, along with seven mobile phones, cash and the car used during the incident. The vehicle reportedly had an “L” mark, indicating it belonged to a learner driver. All seized materials were taken into custody as evidence.

Two separate cases have been filed, one for the illegal possession of liquor and another for assaulting police officers. The supplier of the liquor has been arrested, while Sameer Shah was also detained for allegedly arranging the delivery.

Authorities revealed that Shah’s son failed the breathalyser test and his blood and urine samples have been sent for medical analysis. He faces additional charges linked to assaulting officers. Police said further investigation is underway and additional arrests or legal action may follow.
