Twisha Sharma Delhi Case: The judicial tenure of former District and Sessions Judge Giribala Singh, who has been remanded in judicial custody in the Twisha Sharma death case, is once again in the news. Her long judicial record was cited during the demand for special security and a separate court cell.
33-year-old Twisha Sharma died on May 12 under suspicious circumstances at her marital home in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal. Her family has accused her husband, Samarth Singh, and mother-in-law, Giribala, of murder.
According to court records and available service records, Giribala Singh, while holding various positions in the Bhopal District Court, delivered verdicts in several important criminal cases and convicted dozens of accused.
Principal District And Sessions Judge For 9 Months
Giribala Singh served as the Principal District and Sessions Judge of Bhopal for about 19 months and retired from the same post in February 2023.
During this period, she heard 1,129 cases and delivered judgments in 56 of these sessions trials, convicting 27 accused. These included 12 murder suspects, who were sentenced to life imprisonment.
Delivered Important Judgments As Additional Sessions Judge
Before becoming the Chief District Judge, Giribala Singh was posted as Additional Sessions Judge in Bhopal from September 2015 to November 2017. During a tenure of approximately 27 months, she handled 31 criminal cases. In 12 of these cases, the accused were convicted, while in one murder case, the accused was sentenced to life imprisonment.

Strict Stance Adopted In POCSO Cases
Giribala Singh also took a tough stance in cases involving the POCSO Act. As an Additional Sessions Judge, she decided 22 POCSO cases, convicting 10 accused and sending them to jail.
Giribal Singh Security Demand
The court on June 2 remanded both Giribala Singh and Twisha's husband Samarth Singh to 14 days of judicial custody. According to sources cited by Naidunia, Giribala Singh cited her judicial record when requesting special security and a separate prison cell. The argument was that she had delivered multiple convictions for murder, serious crimes, and POCSO cases during her tenure, requiring extra security precautions. The court has issued necessary guidelines to the concerned authorities in this regard.
