Year Ender 2025: India experienced several deadly stampedes in 2025 due to large gatherings and poor management, leading to over 110 deaths due to injury and suffocation. From sporting celebrations to religious events and political rallies, the lack of planning and mismanagement led to panic and chaos. Across states, at least 110 people dies in such instances where the moment of joy and devotion was turned into a scene of horror. These incidents continue to take lives despite several warnings and instructions from the courts, leading to serious questions regarding the value of life and public safety in India. Apart from this, the large gatherings at these events also expose the hyper fan culture and hero worship in our country.
Major Stampedes Of 2025:
Mahakumbh Stampede In Prayagraj: At least 30 people died and others got severely injured on January 29 after the pilgrims got stuck while crossing a narrow pathway. The slow movement caused panic among the devotees, leading to the situation. Apart from this, several devotees stumbled and lost their balances after a barricade tilted, further worsening the situation.

New Delhi Railway Station Stampede: Overcrowding and lack of planning led to the deaths of at least 18 people at the New Delhi Railway Station on February 15. The passengers started approaching different platforms at a footbridge after a train got delayed, leading to panic. The eyewitnesses informed that the announcements regarding the arrival of the train were not made on time.
RCB Victory Parade Stampede In Bengaluru: Thousands of RCB supporters had gathered to celebrate their first victory outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium on 4 June. However, the lack of escape points and overcrowding caused panic and chaos among the fans, leading to the deaths of at least 11 people.

Karur Stampede: Thousands of actor-turned-politician Vijay's fans had gathered in Karur to listen to their favourite star on September 27. However, Vijay's late arrival and lack of arrangements caused suffocation among the TVK supporters, leading to the deaths of at least 39 people, making it the deadliest stampede of 2025.

Kasibugga Stampede: At least nine devotees died at the Andhra Pradesh's Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga on November 1. The survivors stated that the exit points got completely choked due to the overcrowding, which caused the unrest.
The two main reasons behind these tragic incidents were overcrowding and mismanagement by the authorities. The experts have advised the people to avoid attending such gatherings or to follow the guidelines to ensure their safety.
